About University of Delhi (Department of Psychology)

The University of Delhi is an internationally acclaimed university for excellence in teaching, research, and outreach through world-class quality education with the motto of ‘Nishtha Dhriti Satyam’ (dedication, steadfastness, and truth).The university was established in 1922 by an Act of the central legislature with the primary mission of fostering the all-round development of students through a multi-faceted education and sustained engagement with local, national, and global communities with our cultural ideal of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. Recently on the 1st of May, 2022, DU completed its 100 years of excellence in teaching and celebrating its Centenary (1922-2022) till 30th June 2023.


The contemporary development of the university in many folds under the dynamic leadership of the present Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof Yogesh Singh, has shown new and extra expectations for the beneficiaries and all the stakeholders inside and outside the university. Among many, a few important contemporary developments have taken place, such as the Institution of Eminence (IoE), recognized by the Ministry of Education; Digital Initiatives in the name of the OneDU Programme for promoting online education; and project Samarth, which is an open-source, open-standard enabled robust, secure, scalable, and evolutionary process automation engine for universities and higher education institutions, and Samarth e-Gov is designed and developed by the University of Delhi for HEIs across India to help assimilate paper to paperless existence.

 

The Department of Psychology as an independent department was established in 1964 at North Campus (Main Campus) and other at the South Campus in the year 1981. At North Campus, the courses offered are M.A. Psychology and Ph.D. while at South Campus the course offered is M.A. Applied Psychology. The departmental teaching, field training, and research at Master's and Ph.D. levels are centered around contemporary issues like mental health and stress, technology and human interface, aging, drug abuse, societal development, disability, neuropsychological assessment, and rehabilitation, etc. The Department has an enriched repository of psychological assessment tools, a biofeedback laboratory for neuropsychological assessment, cognitive assessment, ‘Manastha’ the counseling center and a developmental center. 


As a part of centenary celebrations, the Department of Psychology, University of Delhi in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Psychology (IIP) is organizing the 58th National and 27th International Conference of the Indian Academy of Positive Psychology titled ‘Psychology and Technology : Shaping the World’. The conference aims to provide a platform where researchers, academicians, scholars, and practitioners can interact and discuss the challenges, issues, and opportunities that emerge as a consequence of the interface of psychology with technology.
